Discovering the Blue Mountains

The Arts
Rich & Diverse

Artistic and bohemian the Blue Mountains has it all.

The Blue Mountains have long been an artistic and bohemian centre attracting a large community of visual artists, writers, thespians and musicians.

There are a large number of studio galleries throughout the region; many are open only on weekends, or by appointment. Blue Mountains visual artists offer a variety of styles from representational to abstract. Exhibitions may be found at a variety of venue types such as ‘Everglades’, where the art works are surrounded by acres of historic gardens designed by the famous landscape architect Paul Sorenson, Penrith Regional Gallery in the former home of the Lewers, who were artists and garden enthusiasts, and more formal galleries.

Major galleries in the area are Katoomba Fine Arts, The Lost Bear in Leura and the Falls Gallery in Wentworth Falls.

Many serious musicians make their homes in the Mountains and there are concerts, musical shows, and pub music in abundance. You are likely to hear a variety of musical styles by the many talented street performers while exploring the main streets in the larger villages.

To round off your arts experience, the Blue Mountains is home to a professional theatre group, a number
of amateur theatre groups, choirs, brass band, dance groups and more.
